Item frames are used by players for decor, shop displays on servers, and showing stored resources above chests. These can be both regular and glowing frames. In the vanilla version of the game, no customization is provided for them, although it would be possible to add more colors or, at the very least, allow crafting them from different wood types so they would differ from each other. But in Minecraft the developers pay little attention to such things, and here you can rely only on third-party mods created by individual users from the game’s fan community. This review is about one of those projects.

The Dyed Item Frames modification adds the ability to dye frames in the game using all available dyes. Now you can change the background of this item, fully customizing its appearance. Such options have never existed in the vanilla version of the game, and if you want to diversify your decor, this mod is definitely worth installing. You can see what it looks like in the screenshots, although it’s better to download and add it to your modpack right away to see all the changes. Dyes can now be applied to all frames in the game. All 16 colors that are available by default in normal gameplay are used. For example, you will have frames with black, red, green backgrounds, and so on. This is a huge range for the player, and if they use these items for decor or to mark certain storage areas or chests, the appearance can be played with in many ways. This mod has relatively few downloads compared to other large modifications, but it is a very promising project that lets you create 16 new design variants in literally a couple of clicks, which can be used in decor and other purposes. For players this is a big variety of new frames, and visually they look very high-quality.

Advantages of the Dyed Item Frames mod:

· The process of changing the appearance is done at the crafting table. You need to place a frame and add the corresponding dye. As a result, you get a modified frame with a nice look;

· All 16 dyes from the vanilla version of the game are available;

· Visually, each frame looks completely different, and if you place items inside it, the background contrasts with them and gives a different visual effect, changing the style;

· This diversifies decor in almost any building, both medieval and modern;

· Any type of frame can be changed: regular and glowing;

· The player can place a recolored frame inside the same kind of structure. In the end, you get a “window inside a window,” and it looks incredibly cool. With such items you can create interesting compositions and even organize exhibitions.

The process of changing frames in Minecraft is as simple and clear as possible. At the same time, it is inexpensive for the player: one dye is needed to change one item. There is no problem obtaining dyes in the game. You can place inside these frames items from the vanilla version or from other mods, if your modpack includes them. The inner part looks bright and fresh, and if the player changes glowing frames specifically, then at night they will light up, which looks even cooler in the vanilla game. But that’s not all!

You can mix colors with each other! For example, the player has crafted a green and a red frame. These are two standard colors available in Minecraft. But if you recolor them again or combine them, you will get new colors. Such a palette has never existed in the game. In total, almost 6 million variations are available, and this is a huge, almost endless selection. You will have to spend a lot of time creating each frame, selecting combinations, repeatedly recoloring, but every player has this opportunity. In the end, you don’t just have 16 colors, but 6 million! All combinations have already been calculated for you.

This is one of the few mods that adds a simple but very important mechanic for decor and customization in the game world. It does not affect survival or player progress, so it can safely be installed both in single-player and on multiplayer servers. At the moment it is available only for the Fabric loader, and at the time of writing it was already possible to download a version for Minecraft 1.21.5.
