When visiting caves or other dark biomes in Minecraft, players have to choose what to hold in their hand: a torch, pickaxe, or sword, since they constantly need to switch between different items to fight mobs, light up the area, and mine various resources, blocks, and more. If you don’t like this approach and would like to simplify this mechanic, you can try installing the mod described in this review. It will allow you to carry a light source on your belt while doing your tasks: mining resources, farming, fighting mobs, and much more.

The Toni's Immersive Lanterns modification adds the ability to carry lanterns on your belt, and this is dynamic lighting, which is always active. The player can move through biomes and dark caves, and the area will always be lit. This mechanic greatly changes vanilla survival and saves time by not having to switch items in hand. The add-on also supports Iris and different packs, using dynamic lighting with enhancements (light changes, other shades, and more). Already more interesting, right? By default, in vanilla Minecraft, players have to carry torches and place them in caves to light up the area, find valuable materials, and get rid of the many mobs that spawn in dark corners. This system takes extra time: the player constantly switches items in hand, for example, from pickaxe to torch, from torch to sword, which is inconvenient. Dynamic lighting, however, is a completely different matter. There are already mods that allow you to hold a lantern or torch in front of you to light the area. But Toni's Immersive Lanterns has a more advanced functionality: you can attach a lantern to your belt, light the way ahead, and calmly do your tasks without worrying about what tool is currently in your hand.

Advantages of Toni's Immersive Lanterns:

• Additional slot. An extra slot will be added for using a light source, provided by the Accessories mod. You put a lantern there and use dynamic lighting while doing your tasks;
• Free hands for the character. If before you had to hold a lantern or torch in your hand, now it’s enough to place it in a separate slot while performing various tasks in the game (mining blocks with a pickaxe, fighting mobs, and more);
• Hotkeys. You can press Shift + Right Click to quickly put a lantern on your belt. By default, a separate slot is already allocated for it in the general list of additional character slots, so the system automatically recognizes and places the item in the right spot;

• Compatibility with shaders. For correct work, you need to have «dynamic lighting» enabled, which is best done with a shader. The mod developer added official support for Iris Shaders, and in the settings you need to enable the option responsible for this mechanic. Otherwise, the lantern will only give light in your hand, but when placed on the belt, it will go out;
• Realistic physics. If the player attaches a lantern to their belt, it swings while moving, which looks very realistic and beautiful. It is recommended to use available vanilla Minecraft items or add new mods that expand the list of lanterns;
• Graphics improvement. Since you’re using a shader for dynamic lighting, you can adjust the extension settings for light diffusion effects to improve overall visuals. These changes also apply to the lanterns on your belt. In the end, the player decides how the item will be displayed and what effects will be active when using dynamic lighting.

When using the Toni's Immersive Lanterns add-on, you will definitely need to install Accessories, if the launcher doesn’t do it automatically. This mod expands the list of available slots for different purposes. In this case, lanterns will be placed on the character’s belt and hang nicely. If you see other players using the same mechanic, you can move together with them, receiving light from that character. A realistic and well-thought-out system for vanilla Minecraft, which changes the principle of survival, especially when searching for ores in caves and dungeons.

This is one of the best mods for adding dynamic lighting, where the character doesn’t need to carry the light source in hand, but can simply place it on the belt. The new mechanic opens up many possibilities for players, simplifies mining ores, blocks, exploring different biomes, and encourages carrying different light sources to attach to the belt. Screenshots can’t fully convey the atmosphere of this add-on, so it’s better to download and try it yourself than read hundreds of reviews.
